4 Essential Tips to Keeping Your Hot Tub Clean

hottubOwning a hot tub spa is becoming increasingly popular. More and more of us are now investing in one. With that of course, comes the responsibility of maintaining a hot tub. Here are 4 clever tips to help you keep your hot tub in a perfect condition.

1. Change the water at least every 3 months

Depending on how often you use your hot tub you might want to change your water more frequently but as a rule of thumb you have to drain and refill the hot tub once every 3 to 4 months.

2. Weekly chemical treatments are a must

Every hot tub still requires occasional chemical treatments. This is to remove the bacteria from the water, ensuring you can relax in safe and sanitary conditions, and this should be an everyday task for a hot tub owner, although it rarely is.

Set a regular time of day, such as first thing after breakfast or as soon as you’re home from work, and stick to it. Even missing a single day can result in a whole host of problems awaiting you under the tub cover.

3. Clean the surfaces

Using a damp clothes clean the surfaces of the hot tub to ensure no grime and residue builds up.

4. Clean the filters

Every hot tub is installed with a number of filters which ensure your water is clean and safe. The filters remove any debris and other substances from your water. Depending on how often you use it, and where your tub is located, depends on how often your filters will need replacing.

For example; if your tub is placed underneath trees, the chance of leaves and other debris entering the water is significantly higher than if it were placed in open ground. This sort of situation means your filters have to work harder and as a result, require replacement quicker.

Filters should be rinsed at least once a week with a hose, or can be removed and rinsed under a sink before being replaced.

As you can see there are multiple ways to keep your hot tub and spa water clean, with many of them costing you more time than actual money. It is not expensive to keep up with a hot tub and the water in it if you practice sound prevention techniques. Soon after, everything will start automating itself. Remember to rotate the water every so often when needed, and that water clarity is not a great piece of evidence in determining if it is dirty. Using any of the methods above your water will be crystal clear and clean year round for your family to enjoy.
